RECALL FOR HUNTING DOGS
If you turn your dog loose, can you get him back when you want him or her by your side? Or, do you have to wait until he trees a coon, points a bird, bays a rabbit or fox, gives up a deer chase, or just plain gets tired?
There is no getting around the fact: In today's society, it is becoming increasingly important to be able to control our dogs, whether we are hunting, training, or just plain enjoying them outdoors. There are unfortunately too many folks with "two-acre" mentalities that will kill a dog that strays beyond a posted sign onto their domain, never mind that a dog cannot read, and is either looking for a friend or is doing what he was bred to do, which is hunt and retrieve, point or tree game. Indeed, there are others that will kill or steal dogs that cross their paths whether or not they own the property.
Also, the ability to recall a hunting dog proves valuable to the night hunter and the day hunter. For example, the night hunter who must work the next day has the ability to call his dog in if he gets onto a large tract of land or if he bogs down on a track. The day hunter can call his dog off a wild goose chase--or for that matter, a deer chase, or even a car chase--that could otherwise threaten his safety and well-being.
This unique program takes 4-6 weeks and upon completion, any "graduate" will recall reliably on voice or whistle commands as long as he can hear them. A hound can be called off a track or tree, and any other breed of dog can be called off a chase or simply called in and will respond effectively on command. A whistle just like the one Vickie uses in training and hunting is provided with the recall training fee.
No dog's hunting drive is affected from the implementation of this program as Vickie has perfected the time frame and method to get the job done admirably and with style.
IF YOU WANT TO DO IT YOURSELF: Vickie has included information on this technique in various pamphlets and in her book, Dynamics of Hound Training, Volume I. COMING SOON is a DVD on teaching reliable recall to hunting dogs.
